BT Kellam Solar

Status:

Sadly, this project was completed. It forced several residents to move and the project area is not well maintained. You can see the eyesore on FM 773. This project is also not producing the power as advertised, was damaged by hail in March 2023, and has had 8 reported fires onsite in 2023.

Project

BT Kellam Solar, LLC has stripped 400 acres of Van Zandt county land north of Ben Wheeler and installed between 175,000 and 200,000 solar panels paid for with federal tax credits: your tax dollars. .

Location / Size

This project is located north of Ben Wheeler, off of FM 773. This green pastureland was stripped of it's ability to be used for farming or ranching. They estimate on a perfect day, with perfect sunny weather, and the panels are completely clean, to generate a measly 59 MW of energy.

Developers

BT Kellam Solar, LLC is a separate company under Belltown Power Texas which is owned by British company Belltown Power.  Profits from this company, which are realized through state and federal tax credits, abatements, and subsidies (your tax dollars) end up in another country.

How To Protect Yourself

This is an industrial solar facility. Continue to monitor the facility for damage, noise, runoff issues, or other safety issues. You can report problems to the Public Utilities Commission, TCEQ, and your county officials.
